As our homes are responsible for the creation of 27% of our carbon emissions, The Awards, working with the BRE National Refurbishment Centre, have focused upon innovative retrofit solutions.
In partnership with The Gentoo Group, the 2010 Retrofit Design Competition has challenged architects to submit innovative energy efficient retrofit design solutions for a redundant housing block in Sunderland, working to the design brief which can be found at www.britishhomesawards.com/designbrief.asp and architecture.com/competitions
The shortlist was announced by Ruth Reed, RIBA President, at the Awards Presentation, at the London Marriott, Grosvenor Square on Thursday 1st July.

The winning scheme for the Retrofit Design Competition will be announced at the RIBA Stirling Prize in October 2010 and implemented onsite by The Gentoo Group in partnership with the winning architect.
