Suite Success
The Buckingham Suite is an unusual property: a 3,450 sq ft ground floor maisonette in the heart of Belgravia which occupies the rear half of two floors of a building. Over the years the home had become outdated and dilapidated and it had suffered from unsympathetic development. Its new owner commissioned Carolyn Trevor Design to transform the property into a high quality family home with additional ensuite bedroom. Entertainment spaces were to be rationalised to provide a kitchen and dining area, a private sitting room and a large sitting room. To achieve this, the home required re-organisation, substantial new build additions and stripping back to the original. The design is simple and classic; straight lines, polished steel framed mirrors and wide marble slabs make the bathrooms spacious and luxurious. A neutral taupe colour scheme is balanced with splashes of red and gold in, for example, curtains and artworks. Four bedrooms are located on the lowest level. The ensuite bathrooms all feature distinctly elegant stones: honed Calacatta Oro, Bateig Blue and Bianco Assoluto. The existing lightwell has been infilled with a new oak panelled study, complete with rooflight on the ground floor and an additional bathroom below. The rear elevation to the garden has been remodelled: ground floor bay windows were changed to curved sashes and sills lowered to allow better views to the garden below. Changes were also made to bedroom windows to allow more light into the property. The study and drawing room feature bespoke stone and marble fireplaces and simple bespoke fibrous plaster cornices. The services and comfort of the property were carefully considered and all spaces were fitted with comfort cooling, as well as state of the art lighting and audio systems. The garden was also re-landscaped. |
