THE CATEGORIES

1. ONE-OFF HOUSE OF THE YEAR

A house of any size designed by an architect for a private client

2. SMALL HOUSE OF THE YEAR

A house of contemporary or vernacular design that provides accommodation up to 2000 sq ft.

3. LARGE HOUSE OF THE YEAR

A house of contemporary or vernacular design that provides accommodation up to 2000 sq ft.

4. INTERIOR DESIGN OF THE YEAR

A new or refurbished home judged on its internal layout, how space is maximised and the use of colours and furnishings to enhance its saleability.

5. APARTMENT BUILDING OF THE YEAR

A single, one-off building comprising apartments and/or studios offering flexible living and lifestyle benefits.

6. RETIREMENT DEVELOPMENT OF THE YEAR

Judged on external and interior design, layout, layout, landscaping, security and the provision of services and communal facilities.

7. CONVERSION OF THE YEAR

A conversion, refurbishment or restoration of any residential, commercial or industrial building(s) to provide new homes.

8. INNOVATION AWARD FOR BUILDING TECHNOLOGY

A residential development of any size that demonstrates the adoption of new building technologies and the sustainable use of resources. Submissions to this category could demonstrate off-site construction technologies, evidence of energy saving initiatives and/or the use of environmentally-friendly materials in construction and/or consideration for waste and transport needs and water recycling.

9. AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT OF THE YEAR

For the most imaginative, practical and sympathetic development by a registered social landlord, charity, trust or public body in partnership with a local authority and/or a developer for rent or shared ownership (can be part of a wider scheme but the affordable quota must be larger than any for private sale with little or no discernable difference in quality – inside or out)

10. MIXED-USE REGENERATION DEVELOPMENT OF THE YEAR

A scheme comprising houses and/or apartments with associated retail, office or leisure development on the same site. It should demonstrate a significant contribution and impact on the local environment and community.

11. DEVELOPMENT OF THE YEAR

A residential development of any size by that demonstrates a significant contribution to the local environment and community, including where appropriate the restoration and enhancement of the existing site to restore natural wildlife habitats

12. HOUSING PROJECT OF THE YEAR

Awarded for the most impressive scheme of houses and/or apartments that has received planning consent but is not more than six months into development. It is anticipated that this entry will rely solely on CGIs


HOMEBUILDER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Awarded to the home builder whose portfolio demonstrates a commitment to:

  • sustainable regeneration
  • the establishment of new communities
  • strong architectural design and landscaping
  • innovative construction methods
  • environmental initiatives

ARCHITECT OF THE YEAR AWARD

Awarded to the Architectural Practice submitting the most impressive portfolio of entries across all categories that demonstrate the same commitments as the above.
