Bewley Homes commissioned Broadway Malyan to design apartments in three halls at the redbrick former Douai School, a grade two listed building beside Douai Abbey. Dating back to 1830 with original features as stone corbels, dark wood ceilings and tall leaded glass windows each Hall has been converted with respect to create a total of 33 single apartments. Although the conversion keeps interventions to a minimum, where there are additions they are contemporary and the award judges praised the juxtaposition of old and new.
