A young family owned an apartment in a contemporary development built by Grosvenor Estates and Native Land, and commissioned Taylor Howes Designs to complete their home. They loved the generous scale of their four-bedroom home, and briefed the designer to add purpose, style and comfort. The designer’s first intervention added drama to the entrance, substituting the timber staircase with one made partly from glass. German designer Eva Menz was commissioned to create a spiral chandelier made from Swarovski crystal beads for the centre of the staircase. The reception rooms have been transformed with new limed oak floors and metallic grass wallpapers. On the chimney breast an artist has mimicked the wallpaper effect, while finishing touches include bespoke joinery, notably a plasma housing with lacquer sliding panel and open shelving backlit by coloured LED lights. A windowless room has been given the look of a ‘private club’ and serves as a dining area and wine cellar. The homeowner’s wine collection is kept in optimum condition as the wine cellar is equipped with temperature controls. The master bedroom features a whole upholstered bedhead wall, which separates a dressing area. A further bedroom was tailored for a five-year old girl, with LED lights creating her star sign on the ceiling, an upright piano, and a bunk bed with a slide and desk facility below. |
