John Thompson, the architect who has pioneered community involvement in planning, believes in designing homes that offer flexible living spaces for today and are related to their natural environment. The innovative design of the Cyclamen house type was inspired by a design trip with Linden Homes to the United States. As a result the Cyclamen design eschews the typical suburban character of partitioned living and dining spaces and opts for the open- plan spaces. This three –bedroom house of only 1,306 sq ft boasts an open-plan ground floor with a living area, dining area and kitchen and a double height conservatory opening on to the back garden. On the first floor is a galleried study overlooking the garden, together with two double bedrooms (one with a front balcony) and a family bathroom. The master bedroom on the top floor is a spacious room in the roof with an ensuite bathroom, fitted wardrobes and a dormer window. The design formula was considered successful in the Evening standard New Homes Awards 2003, earning the accolade of House of the Year. |
