Although this is a large four-bedroom house, it does not dominate its sensitive setting, within a conservation area of the traditional English village of Rushden. Instead Jeremy King Architects’ design steps down its hillside site in three blocks – main house, bedrooms, plus garage and office. This arrangement results in a rich and varied sequence of spaces internally. Strategically positioned windows and changes in level give unexpected views through the building, while shaded roof lights mark a route through the house.
