House 8 is one of 15 homes that make up The
Collection, a development by Oakmayne Properties
on the former Saatchi Gallery site in north London.
Each of the houses on the site is individual. The
overall look of House 8 was quite masculine
architecturally so designer Shirley Browne Interiors
sought to soften the interior with calming colours and
textures.
The central glass and wood staircase provided
spaces for sculptures and the potential to experiment
with colour. The remainder of the hallway and
staircase became a gallery for prints and
photography.
The strong lines of the wenge and steel kitchen were
softened with a feature wall of Cole & Son wallpaper.
Its forest pattern also helped to create a flow from the
kitchen and dining area to the planting in the
courtyard garden. White sliding panels at the tall
windows further soften the look, diffusing daylight and
creating mood in the evening.
The living area makes a statement with white sofas at
one end and a wing chair and armoire at the other.
The designer played with texture and form here as
well as fabrics, placing paisley velvet against metallic cushions, and a rectangular black glass coffee table
beside circular chrome side tables.
Bedrooms combine masculine and feminine
elements, being welcoming but also having dramatic
touches. For example, one bedroom features a very
tall headboard upholstered in chocolate satin and
studded with oversized red velvet buttons. This is
combined with a chocolate quilted satin throw, white
bed linen, red lined lampshades and bedside tables
that have a red lining when opened.
The home has been equipped with latest home technology, including the Siedle biometric fingerprint
access control system, a Crestron automation system
with in-wall touch panel, iPOD integration cabling, and
an outdoor fireplace in the courtyard garden. |
