The original prototype Integer House received the award for Best Ecological Development in the 1999 National HomeBuilder Design Awards. This Integer House at Newbury was the first to be built as part of a new development of housing for sale. Integer stands for Intelligent and Green and the Integer project, to which many housing associations, local authorities and architects- even a few housing developers –subscribe to as partner, is committed to the idea that 21st century buildings must use intelligent and green technologies, and that these principles must be applied to the whole life-cycles of the buildings. Although different from the original Integer house prototype (which still stands at BRE in Watford) it uses the same technologies. With its sustainable timber-frame construction, warm cell newspaper insulated cavity walls, solar heating, rainwater collection and grey water re-cycling, and extensive cabling and communication technology for security, computers and internet access it has a lot to teach conventional house builders. |
