Jodlowa House is a luxury modernist home, created
for a private client in an area of outstanding natural
beauty on the outskirts of Krakow. “It's a fantastic
house and really makes the most of its setting,” one
of the judging panel said of the home. The house was
designed by London-based PCKO Architects, working
in cooperation with Poland-based design practice
MOFO Architects.
The design takes full advantage of the existing trees
and natural environment, and the nature of the site is
preserved. The steel frame structure appears to 'float'
above the site, while the fully glazed exterior reflects
the surrounding trees and greenery.
The house has a covered swimming pool, two main
bedrooms, a 140 square metre living area and a fivestorey
viewing tower. The lower floors of the tower
provide additional guest accommodation. A fully
glazed study at the top of the tower offers beautiful
panoramic views of the distant Tatra Mountains.
The architectural concept is based on the dynamic
contrast between the main elements: floating
transparent glazed steel structure, the solid element of
the swimming pool and garages, and the verticality of
the tower. All masonry walls were constructed using
local recovered stone, laid in a traditional pattern.
The home incorporates a natural ventilation system to
prevent overheating in summer and create a
comfortable environment in winter. |
