Bellway Homes Thames Gateway's Mojo makes the most of its proximity to the site of the 2012 Olympics. The scheme's highest block marks the gateway to the Olympic site, and residents at higher
levels will have views across the Olympic park.
The design by RMA Architects comprises 86 homes ranging from studio apartments to five bedroom houses. The homes are distributed across a series of
linked blocks running along a narrow island site, with a tree lined avenue on one side and a busy road on the other. The building form is defined by the site boundaries, overlooking the public realm for surveillance.
Working along the street, the western building reflects the height and proportions of a retained listed house,
Pelican Cottage. A dark neutral element links the two.
The building height steps up along the street, culminating in the nine-storey block which forms a focal point of the site.
South facing elevations will be clad in white render, to contrast with the tree lined avenue. Houses will be clad in grey metal, delineated with glass and coloured infills. Along the busy roadside elevation dark grey brick will be combined with bright red stair towers. The tall block will have shiny white cladding and red soffits, and will be combined with a grey metal clad box. Entrance points around the perimeter of the site will create active frontages. Larger units at ground floor level are dual aspect and there will be amenity space set back along the facade behind a dark timber
splayed wall. Apartments have balconies and at upper levels they have access to roof decks.
The homes are a mix of private sale and affordable, the latter being for rental and shared ownership. |
