This is an imposing property, as befits its St Georges
Hill location. The six bedroom, six bathroom 6650
sq ft home developed by Octagon has traditional brick
elevations, pitched roof and classical details, including
a stone portico framing the main entrance. By
contrast the rear of the property and its interior are more contemporary, a point that is amply
demonstrated when you walk into the house and see its glass panelled staircase and three-storey high window.
A key challenge of the project was the undulating
nature of the one-acre plot. As a result, the rear
gardens were arranged in contoured tiers, and the
challenge was turned to advantage as this allowed for
the creation of a raised central terrace, which
incorporates a 12 metre elliptical outdoor swimming
pool with illuminated waterfall, and a stunning vista.
The house has a marble-floored entrance hall with
glass panelled staircase and is flanked by a den and
study. The living space is a jigsaw of interconnecting
rooms flanking the rear of the house, starting with a
24 ft square kitchen and family room, leading into the
dining room which has its own glass panelled servery,
and finishing in the drawing room.
At first floor level there are four bedrooms, including a
master suite, plus a glass-panelled and decked sun
terrace. More glass panelled stairs lead to the second
floor where there are two further bedrooms and
under-eaves storage.
The project has benefited from the fact that Octagon's
head of design, Tony Taylor, and specialist Hill House
Interiors were both brought into the project at an early
stage to advise on fittings and design details. |
