Developer Acorn pulled off a coup when they bought
the site of this development in Newquay. The land
is on the Headland Road, overlooking the famous
Fistral Beach, the Atlantic Ocean, and the fairways of
Newquay Golf Club.
It is an idyllic location, but Cornwall has suffered from
poor quality development on such sites in the recent
past. The intention here was to enhance the
environment with high quality architecture. Architect
Lacey Hickie Caley has designed a scheme of just 12
apartments and two curved glass penthouses. The
curving form of the architecture is inspired by marine
and maritime references ranging from natural
seashells to man-made lighthouses.
The apartments are located over ground, first and
second floors, and wrapped in extensive balconies
with glass balustrading. The penthouses are at third
and fourth floors and have large terraces. Apartments range from two bedroom, two bathroom units to the
2239 sq ft three bedroom, three bathroom duplex
penthouses with plunge pools on their terraces. The
building will be finished in white render, a further
reference to lighthouses and all things nautical. It will
be bordered by soft landscaping, but it will be the
surrounding landscape that rightfully takes the
attention. |
