A newly built classical five-bedroom townhouse in a luxury development in south west London deserves a suitably luxurious interior. Developer Octagon asked Hill House Interiors to create a contemporary classic interior scheme incorporating top specification modern fittings, materials and furniture for the house at its Richmond Lock development. The glamorous open plan living area of the house sets the tone. There are bold injections of vivid turquoise on the walls, while a bespoke storage unit along one wall has cream faux ostrich skin panels framed in dark oak. Even the modest and much neglected under stair area is transformed into a feature, incorporating lit apertures with a secret door leading to storage. The central stairwell houses the interior’s most dramatic feature: a 5.5 metre long specially commissioned hand-blown glass and burnished silver chandelier in a contemporary design. The massive installation cascades down three floors of the stairwell. Smaller diamond shaped moulded glass chandeliers are suspended above the black lacquered dining table. Upstairs, the master bedroom suite takes its inspiration from the grandeur of neighbouring mansion Gordon House. One wall is covered in truffle coloured suede, studded in polished chrome, to form a sumptuous headboard to the super kingsized master bed. A pair of Italian-made burnished silver lamps complete the opulent look. Throughout the house the interior designers have used highly distinctive wall coverings, including a ‘trompe l’oeil’ buttoned-effect wallpaper for a guest bedroom and a giant photographic mural for a children’s room. Fabrics such as pleated velvet and mohair have been selected for soft furnishings, providing texture in the finishing touches and adding to the overall sense of luxury.
