Sharrowpoint

Sharrowpoint is located just one mile to the south-west of the centre of Sheffield, in an established suburb and bordering a conservation area. The high-density scheme includes townhouses and a block containing apartments, two commercial units, and a generous 180 square metre penthouse.

Project Orange’s design cleverly respects the conservation area context, while also demonstrating contemporary design quality. It sets a high standard in an area where many new buildings have been facsimiles of their Victorian neighbours.

Where the scheme faces the conservation area, it is clad in locally sourced traditional Yorkshire stone. The stonework has a rough-hewn pitched faced finish and is punctuated by large, deep-set anodised frame windows that emphasise the massing of the material.

To the rear the apartment block is flanked by townhouses surrounding a courtyard. Here the palette of cladding materials changes from stone to white render, black stained timber and pre-weathered zinc. Visual contrasts abound, from the black and white colours of the courtyard facades, to the heavy stone and lightweight modern cladding materials.

The scheme incorporates renewable energy technology, having the capacity to generate 10% of its power demand using rooftop solar panels.
