Shirland Mews, which won an Evening Standard New Homes Award for Best Development, is the complete redevelopment of a derelict mews in Westminster with 14 new houses, of contemporary design. Although the block looks as each house is identical, they range in size from two to five bedrooms with integral garages. With the planners insisting that the top storey should be set back with a mansard roof, the architects- Conran & Partners- specified zinc-covered roofing to give a modern look. Attention to detail and quality is shown by the full height oak doors, sliding glazed panels stainless steel door handle and with wide board lime oak flooring in the reception areas. There are even limestone tiles, granite pebbles and hardwood boarding on the patios and terraces. Managing Director of Q Developments- who were awarded a What House Silver award for Best Small Housebuilder said: “We are no longer Georgians living in Georgian houses.
