Specialist retirement developer English Courtyard bought this late Victorian Cotswold rectory, and has added purpose-designed cottages and flats to the site to form a very special 26-home community. The rectory has been restored and converted into four homes suitable for the needs of the retired. At right angles sits a row of four new stone built cottages. Behind them are three further blocks, set around courtyard gardens. The courtyard-style design, influenced by the medieval English almshouse, has long been at the heart of English Courtyard’s approach, hence the company name. The judges variously described the design of the scheme by architect Sidell Gibson as “picturesque, neat and beautifully connected to nature”. All agreed that the scheme was perfect for its target buyers- a very worthy winner of this category. |
