The Ricard House Type

Lacuna
Kings Hill
West Malling
Kent

Lacuna is the name of the Central Village at Kings Hill, designed by Clague architects for Environ Country Homes and its joint venture partner Sunley Estates where the design principle was to provide a mixed variety of house types and elevational treatments whilst respecting local architectural context and detailing. The Ricard house type- one of the first two show houses- is a three storey three-bedroom house with large areas of glazing and open plan living areas to provide the flexibility to suit current lifestyles. A study and master bedroom are on the top floor, with en-suite bathroom and walk-in dressing room. On the first floor there is a large open-plan living room, kitchen and dining area, which opens on to a terrace are. On the ground floor are two secondary bedrooms, family bathroom and a utility room. Lacuna is a high density development that satisfied the requirements of PPG3 and the Ricard house type was awarded Best House in England in the 2002 National HomeBuilder Design Awards. In 2003 Lacuna won a What House Award, a Housing Design Award and ultimately a Building for Life Award from CABE.
