This development sits close to the two and a half mile
long beach of Camber Sands, and takes its lead
from the traditional fishing village with its variety
and colour.
The blue and white weatherboarding of the new homes
comes straight from the traditional coastal village. The
homes have been designed in traditional materials to
blend with the East Sussex vernacular and its
landscape. The site is just two and a half miles from
the architecturally distinctive town of Rye.
Developer Ward Homes is building 60 homes in the
first phase of development on the 11.5 acre former
greenfield site. A further 81 homes are planned. The
masterplan and first phase of homes were initially
designed by Clague Architects, with RPA completing
the designs.
The development contains a mix of cladding finishes
and house types to give charm and character. White
wood balconies, porches and fences further add to the
sense of tradition and charm. Homes range from two
bedroom apartments to four bedroom houses and are
sited to make the most of views over natural grassland
and of the high sand dunes of Camber Sands.
Homes do not have traditional gardens. Instead, they
have decking and white shingle framed by fencing, in
keeping with the seaside style. Areas of landscaping in
front of the houses retain features of the original
farmland.
