PCKO Architects’ solution to the inevitable challenges posed by the design of a Townhouse to avoid occupants needing to run up and down stairs all day long is based on having all the living space at ground floor level, with bedrooms at first floor and a master bedroom on the top floor. Instead of entertaining guests in a formal first floor lounge, occupants of this house can wow them with their contemporary open plan living and dining space with its central double-height atrium.

This design was created for a competition promoted by David Wilson Homes in association with Design for Homes and Wood for Good to explore innovation in family house design. PCKO Architects won that competition and seven three-bedroom eScape townhouses have been built at Barratt Kent’s Eden Village. Our judges were impressed by the spatial quality achieved internally.
